The GDI Watchtower Artillery
The GDI Watchtower is an intermediate range heavy gun turret mounted on a mobile piece of equipment. Although it does not more on the screen, it is still considered a vehicle. In reality, an artillery is somewhat like a trailer with a huge gun. It's pretty effective since it can start hitting from quite far away and had the same Effective Range as the Defense Sniper Team. Although it's not as effective as I would have hoped, it does set the tone and does the initial damage and generally, infantry is send first.
I've not tried the SR Arms. From my understanding, your effective range drops by a whole square, hence reducing the effective range from 3.5 to 2.5 but the artillery is armed with an arm that can grab targets and bring them in closer and do stronger damage. I'm quite conflicted as I have set my defense to start picking up from as far as possible plus bringing in enemies closer faster doesn't really appeal to me.

The Watchtower Artillery is a pretty good unit but I only use one per base. Fact is, Sniper Teams and MG Nests do as good a job and cost a lot less to upgrade. This is the least expensive of the artillery line up and you shouldn't get too many of them as Snipers are a worthy alternative.
